Beyond1325
Amplifying African feminist perspectives in the global peace and security agenda
Creating Space for Change
Beyond1325 is a digital platform that amplifies African feminist perspectives on peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and social justice. We recognize that while UN Security Council Resolution 1325 was groundbreaking in acknowledging women's roles in peace and security, there is still much work to be done.
Our mission is to create space for African women's voices, experiences, and expertise in shaping peace processes. We believe that sustainable peace requires inclusive approaches that center the knowledge and leadership of those most affected by conflict.
Through storytelling, scholarship, and resource sharing, we aim to build a community of practice that supports feminist peacebuilders across the African continent and diaspora.
Why Beyond1325?
The Challenge
While UNSCR 1325 and its sister resolutions marked a turning point in global recognition of women's roles in peacebuilding, their implementation often remains top-down, disconnected, or dominated by non-African perspectives.
Our Response
Beyond1325 was created as a space for scholars, practitioners, activists, educators, and engaged citizens who seek grounded, intersectional, and African feminist approaches to WPS. It's for those asking hard questions, experimenting with alternatives, and building peace in classrooms, communities, and corridors of power.
Three Pillars of Impact
Elevate African feminist voices and experiences in global peace and security discussions through digital storytelling and advocacy.
Build networks and communities of practice among feminist peacebuilders across Africa and the diaspora.
Influence policy and practice through evidence-based research, scholarship, and strategic advocacy initiatives.
